Does anyone know how to deal with a berserk car alarm in 1992 Toyota 4 runner?

My parents own a 1992 Toyota 4 runner, and the alarm system is driving us nuts. It went off yesterday near a mall, and it screamed at us all the way home. We had to crawl out the passenger window to get out, and now the only way to start it is to push start it because it has an automatic shutoff on it. When we do get it started, the alarm goes off when we touch anything.. CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP US?

Although it’s an older model car, I would suggest taking it back to a toyota dealer (if it’s a factory installed alarm) or if not, take it to a car alarm dealer and explain the problem, they should be able to help you –or at least disable it so it doesn’t work. Not working all the time, is better than living this way. Good luck!

well the place they put them is under the steering wheel i would recomend unhooking it and youshould only have to unplug it from the box andnothave to worrie about it cause a car alarm that is not workng right will drain a battery and then it will get expencive to fix if you keep push starting it

I could recommend lots of things to look for,but this particular 4 runner is having a moment of its own,I suggest a 45 caliber handgun or a 12 gauge shotgun, sometimes you need to slap it around a little bit,–jump in,pull down the sun-visor look directly into mirror sayingI’M YOUR BOSSDONT MESS WITH ME.scream as loud as you can into the head rest, put a potato in the exhaust, let it choke up a little while,it will learn soon that you paid for it…

i would try to take the fuse out of the alarm system. this is possible on many aftermarket alarm systems. and on some factory ones too. just crawl up under the dash and follow the wires to the alarm and there is usually an inline fuse (or there may be two) and just yank it out of there. if that doesnt work you will probably have to take it to a garage and let them take the whole thing out.

there is a glass breakage sensor which cn be adjusted for sensitivity. The seervice manual didnt show me where it is but it showed me a picture of a cassette player lookin thing with 2 knobs? on th efront and the adjuster on the right side of the box. they said counter clockwise is more sensitive and clockwise is less sensitive. factory specs for your model is 15 clicks clockwise after you start from the full counter clockwise position.
